Dorothy Brower Obituary

Dorothy Brower, 84,  of Halfway, Oregon, died at her home Saturday, August 25, 2018 with her family at her side.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2018~ 11am. at St. Therese Catholic Church in Halfway.   Interment will be held at Pine Haven Cemetery at noon with Fr. Telagani  Blessing the grave and Auspices by the VFW Auxiliary #7847.  Friends are invited to join the family for a potluck reception to be held at the Pine Valley Grange  in Halfway immediately following the Interment.

Dorothy Marlene was born on October 10, 1933 in Baker, Oregon to Marie (Miles) and Ed Bennett.  Dorothy attended St. Francis Catholic School in Baker, Oregon.  While in High School she waitressed at a Chinese Restaurant and  worked as a Nurse's Aide.  She later worked driving school bus, then went on to receive her Nursing Degree. She received her RN Nursing degree in 1978 and spent 28 years in labor and delivery and the emergency room.

During her life she lived in Baker, Oregon, West Palm Beach, Florida, Madrid, Span and Sierra Vista, Arizona, before retiring in Halfway to take care of her Mother Marie Thomas.

Dorothy Loved the Mariner’s baseball team and faithfully cheered them on. She played soft ball for the air force league,  violin and also had wings as an airplane pilot.    Dorothy volunteered  with the Halfway Ambulance Service for several years.  She delighted in gardening and she planted a rose for most all of the EMT’s in her garden.   Dorothy enjoyed her nursing right up to the end, always ready to help, to take care, and to figure out a solution to a problem.  She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary #7847 and the Pine Valley Grange of which she held many offices in both.  Dorothy was a doer and an organizer, she kept Eagle Valley EMT’s on track with their current vaccinations, she kept the books that guided placing flags on graves during Memorial weekend, she loved to play pinochle and her favorite color was blue.  She was also the Friday night Bingo organizer extraordinaire, setting up, making popcorn, getting the coffee, tea and hot water started and did so for 22 years.   Dorothy was also a faithful member of the St. Therese Catholic Church in Halfway.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Randall Bennett and Robert DeNure;  nephews James "Jimmy", John and niece Kittatina "Kitty" Yardley.

Dorothy is survived by her children Gary and Donna Tarter of Deer Island, Oregon, Paul and Terry Tarter of Richland, Oregon, Rod and Neta Tarter of Baker City, Oregon, Lisa Higgins of McKee, Kentucky; grandchildren Heidi (Dave) Curtis, Tim Tarter, D.C. Tarter, A.J. (Ambre) Tarter, Amy (Nick) Dragt, Randi Tarter, Matt (Tori) Tarter, Adam (Chelsea) Higgins, Emily Higgins; eight great grandchildren; Brother Robert Thomas,  Sisters Elizabeth DeNure, Frances Yardley; Aunt Nadine Bennett; favorite cousin Cheryl Cooper; many cousins, nieces, nephews  and many  special friends.  A huge thank you to Eileen Monti who was a dear friend,  giving of her time for Dr. appointments, shopping, and so much more.
