Betty Annis, 94, of Baker City, died on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Settler's Park Assisted Living Facility.
Betty Stephenson Annis passed away peacefully October 21, 2018 at the age of 94. Betty was born March 6, 1924 in Walla Walla, Washington. When she was 7 years old, her mother died leaving Betty to be raised by her maternal Grandmother. Betty recalled her childhood as being not overly happy since her grandmother was very, very strict. Occasionally, though, she was allowed to stay at her Grandma & Grandpa Stephenson’s farm in the Rye Valley near Mormon Basin. There Betty was allowed as much freedom as she wanted which included riding horseback over the wild & beautiful country there.
Betty married Bill Annis; and the couple lived near the Rogue River for several years. Later on they moved to various other places. In connection with Bill’s work, they traveled quite extensively throughout the USA. After their marriage ended in divorce, Betty was employed in Reno, Nevada for many years.
She retired and moved to Baker City where well into her 80’s, she would drop everything when the chance arose to go golfing, pick huckleberries, hunt mushrooms, go bike riding, or just take a drive to enjoy the beauty of Eastern Oregon. Whether spring, summer, or fall, the sight of quaking aspens always drew a comment from her; she loved her “quakies” as she called them.
Betty packed a lot of living in her long, fruitful life. Always an animal lover, avid reader & fantastic cook, in later years she enjoyed pinochle parties with “the girls”. Most of all, Betty was a wonderful, loyal, vibrant friend who will be missed by all who knew her. Rest in peace, Dear Betty; thanks for all the laughs & memorable times we had together.
At Betty’s request, there will be no services. Any memorial contribution may be made to the Baker County Library Foundation through Tami's Pine Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Services PO Box 543 Halfway, Oregon 97834. On line condolences may be shared at www..tamispinevalleyfuneralhome.com
