Welcome to the memorial page for

Sunny Cullum

May 15, 2017

I thought I was all cried out, but I found lots more tears when I started to write Sunny's obituary. He was born December 30, 2004 and came to us on Valentines Day 2005 as a very fuzzy little puppy. He was a purebred Miniature Australian Shepherd, but didn't fit the mold. As an adult he weighed in the vicinity of 35 lbs, had long hair and was not the right color, but he was beautiful! We had always had dogs and most of them were smart, but Sunny was the most intelligent dog I have ever known. He learned new things quickly and enjoyed showing off his repertoire of tricks. I entered him in an agility class and he immediately became the "teacher's pet". He loved chasing a ball and even learned to return a tossed ball by bouncing it off his nose, usually pretty accurately. He was a peaceful guy. If another dog approached him aggressively, he would just turn his back and wait till the dog "stood down" and then proceed with the proper introductions. Our cats loved him. He was my confidant, companion and comfort especially after I became a widow in January 2015. The only thing he wouldn't(not couldn't)learn was not to bark his head off at us if we went somewhere without him! This time he went without me. He died of Cushing's disease on May 15th, 2017.
